Last weekend we went to the Missoula Art Museum's Annual Benefit Auction.  It's MAM's 40th anniversary, so the party was 70s themed.   
Here we are decked out in polyester with our friend and Brink gallery owner, Jenn Leutzinger.  The 70s Maxi dress fashion is nothing if it isn't comfortable!  We both carried custom 8 Track iPhone Cases, handmade by Bruce.

The backstreets are still and it's a short serene walk to downtown.  


Our house looks smaller and cozier, like it's been carved out from under the snow.

We visited the Centre Pompidou several times.  With just the right bustling vibe, it feels like the center of town to me even if not geographically the center of Paris.  I was really attracted to this neighborhood.  I kept wanting to go back to it and wander the streets. Well this turned out to be disappointing.  I'll have to disagree with Art Spiegelman's quote on the cover endorsing it as "Spain's take on Che is brilliant and radical."  Unless I find why he thinks so, cause I don't see it.  I support a graphic biography of Che Guevara, but this book lacked flow.

Bruce just introduced me to a very cool iPhone app called 360 Panorama.  You basically move the camera around while it takes frames of images and they get combined into one shot.  Voila! A 360 degree panoramic photo. Tons of potential for creative picture taking with this app.

If you see me around town spinning in circles with my phone in the air, I might be playing with this!

Sauf means 'except' or 'save' in English - but means save as in 'save for that one.'   It made sense that I often saw the 'no entry' with 'except for bicyclists' in pedestrian friendly areas and medieval parts of the city.

For me the first time I watched it earlier this year, The Naked City (Netflix link here) fell short of the critical acclaim it enjoyed in 1949 or since.  I was still compelled to watch the Jules Dassin's Noir thriller again.  
I've decided that it is Barry Fitzgerald's casually natural performance as a detective that appeals to me. After the "100-year-old/good bones house remodel project" (even though there's still a bit left to do), my beau swept me off to Paris, France for a week.

It's lightweight with several interesting and amusing turns.

If you love to cook, and if you also love art, you must watch this movie documenting the avant-garde cooking at a restaurant  in Spain of the same name, El Bulli.  It's about the art of experiencing food. I'm still thinking about the water, the ice and the frequent obsessiveness that comes with creativity.  And the moments of absurdity and grace found in its pursuit.

I don't usually feel this way about Audio books, but I highly recommend the Audio version of this book. Here it is: the good bones project.  A 100-year-old duplex, built as a duplex with two almost exactly mirroring two-story apartments.

So far I highly recommending listening to "Unstoppable" while scraping paint, sanding trim and patching plaster and occasionally pretend you are encased in white leotards.

  In the process of buying it, we invited a small parade of building specialists and subcontractors to consult on its soundness and potential for improvements. 
Repeatedly, the verdict was that "It has good bones."

Just crossing town for this hike felt like a greater refreshing retreat and the flowers totally sweetened the deal.

Gone for only five days, we had a fantastic relaxing break in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.  We stayed at the Pioneer Cabins and Guest Farm down Boat Gunnel Road in Townsend. The proprietors, Diane and Roger (pictured above) gave us just the right amount of helpful and leave-you-alone.

We've been traveling so much since last June, I haven't kept up with updates very well, but I'm not giving up.  Because of the crazy schedule, the regularity of Pancake Tuesdays came to a halt.  In early winter (or was it fall?) we had a 'reunion'. I think this video advertisement for PETA, titled "Veggie Love," is weird and funny and not much worse than most commercials on television that I've seen, but admittedly it is way over the top.  Apparently the networks are keeping it from airing during the Super Bowl (See Good's article.) and since I don't have my own television or watch the Super Bowl, I really don't care.

It was a luxurious break from our normal lives and I highly recommend it.  Even though it was very cold, the place was fancy as far as "cabins" go, with gas fireplaces, a modern kitchen and a full bathroom.  But no internet.
